Rocket Lab Stock Forecast After Q2 2026: Buy or Sell?

Rocket Lab Corporation (NASDAQ: RKLB) delivered another strong quarter of revenue growth, but its latest earnings report also exposed several issues that investors cannot ignore.

The company generated record Q2 revenue while expanding its backlog, yet profitability remained under pressure and the outlook for margins weakened. Meanwhile, the timing of the Neutron rocket has become a major source of uncertainty.

For investors asking whether RKLB is a buy or sell after Q2 2026, the answer depends heavily on risk tolerance. The long-term opportunity remains attractive, but the stock is no longer a straightforward growth story.

Key Takeaways

  • Rocket Lab’s Q2 revenue rose 62% year over year to $234.1 million, while backlog reached approximately $2.36 billion.

  • Weak near-term margins and the narrowing timeline for Neutron’s first launch are weighing on investor sentiment.

  • RKLB looks more suitable for a gradual purchase or speculative hold than an aggressive buy at current levels.

Rocket Lab Stock Forecast After Q2 2026: Buy or Sell?

source by Trading View

Rocket Lab Corporation continues to expand rapidly across launch services, satellite manufacturing, spacecraft components and defence programmes. Its Q2 2026 results showed that demand for these services remains strong.

Rocket Lab reported Q2 revenue of $234.1 million, representing a 62% year over year increase. Revenue also came in slightly above the roughly $232 million analyst expectation. Gross profit reached $84.6 million, while GAAP gross margin was 36.1%. Non GAAP gross margin stood at 41.5%.

However, profitability remained the main weakness. Rocket Lab recorded a $49.3 million net loss, equivalent to approximately $0.08 per share, while adjusted EBITDA was negative $8.8 million.

The company’s backlog provides a much more encouraging picture. Backlog increased to around $2.36 billion, up sharply from the previous year. This gives Rocket Lab considerably better revenue visibility and suggests that its growth is supported by actual contracts rather than simply expectations.

The balance sheet also remains an important part of the story. Rocket Lab ended June with approximately $2.13 billion in cash and cash equivalents.

At the same time, the company generated negative operating cash flow during the first half of the year and raised approximately $1.53 billion through the market equity offerings.

That capital provides Rocket Lab with flexibility to invest in growth, but it also creates dilution concerns for shareholders.

Why Is RKLB Stock Falling?

The recent decline appears to be more about profitability expectations than demand.

Rocket Lab guided for Q3 revenue of between $250 million and $265 million. At the midpoint, that would represent another substantial year over year increase.

However, the company expects GAAP gross margin of only 29% to 31%, considerably below the approximately 37.6% analyst expectation reported by Reuters.

The market therefore has a difficult question to answer: can Rocket Lab turn its impressive revenue growth and backlog into sustainable profits?

Investors are also watching rising expenses related to Neutron development and acquisitions. A larger proportion of lower margin satellite platform work is expected to affect Q3 margins.

This explains why a strong revenue report did not automatically produce a positive share price reaction.

RKLB closed at $80.04 on 10 August 2026, according to Yahoo Finance historical data. The shares subsequently came under further pressure in after hours trading following the earnings update.

The situation is therefore more nuanced than simply saying investors are losing confidence in Rocket Lab. Instead, the market appears to be demanding evidence that the company can translate its expanding business into improving financial performance.

Rocket Lab Growth Outlook: Neutron, Defence and Iridium

The bullish case for Rocket Lab remains significant.

The company is becoming much more than an Electron launch provider. Its Space Systems division has become a major contributor to revenue, while defence contracts are creating additional opportunities in satellites, missile defence and national security.

Rocket Lab has also secured major government contracts, including work connected to the U.S. Space Force. Its launch backlog has continued to expand, demonstrating strong customer demand for Electron and its broader launch capabilities.

The biggest long term catalyst, however, remains Neutron.

Neutron Could Change Rocket Lab’s Valuation

Neutron is designed as a larger reusable launch vehicle and is central to Rocket Lab’s ambition to compete for medium lift commercial, civil space and national security missions.

Rocket Lab is targeting delivery of the first Neutron to the launch pad during Q4 2026. However, Reuters reported that the company’s window for an actual first flight by the end of the year has become narrower.

The company did not provide a new specific launch date, meaning investors should distinguish between reaching the launch pad and completing the maiden flight.

That distinction matters.

A successful Neutron launch could significantly improve the company's long term valuation by opening a much larger addressable market. A further delay or technical problem, however, could lead to another sharp sell off in RKLB.

The other major catalyst is Rocket Lab’s proposed acquisition of Iridium Communications.

The transaction, announced in June 2026, values Iridium at approximately $8 billion and combines Rocket Lab’s launch and satellite manufacturing capabilities with Iridium’s global satellite communications network. The transaction is expected to close in mid 2027, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval.

The deal could give Rocket Lab access to recurring satellite communications revenue and create a vertically integrated space company.

However, the transaction also introduces financing, integration and dilution risks. Rocket Lab has secured commitments for a $3.6 billion senior secured bridge facility, while the consideration includes both cash and Rocket Lab shares.

For shareholders, this means the Iridium deal could be transformative, but it should not automatically be treated as a guaranteed positive.

RKLB Price Target and Technical Levels

Analyst expectations for RKLB remain highly divided, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding the company’s valuation.

Recent estimates have placed average 12 month price targets around the $111 to $118 region, with individual estimates stretching from approximately $64 to $150.

Such a wide range demonstrates how difficult Rocket Lab is to value using conventional metrics while the company remains unprofitable.

A practical scenario framework looks like this:

Scenario

Potential RKLB Outcome

Bear case

$55 to $65

Base case

$75 to $105

Bull case

$120 to $150

The bear case could occur if margins remain weak, Neutron experiences another meaningful delay, or the Iridium transaction creates greater than expected dilution and integration problems.

The base case assumes Rocket Lab continues delivering strong revenue growth, but investors remain cautious until profitability improves.

The bull case would require several things to go right. Neutron would need to reach the launch pad and progress towards a successful maiden flight, backlog would need to convert into revenue efficiently, and the Iridium transaction would need to create meaningful strategic and financial benefits.

From a technical perspective, the recent $74 to $80 area is an important near term zone. A sustained recovery above $100 could improve sentiment, while a decline towards the mid $60s could expose RKLB to additional downside.

These should be viewed as broad support and resistance zones rather than precise trading signals.

Is Rocket Lab Stock a Buy?

For conservative investors, RKLB may be better treated as an avoid or sell candidate until there is clearer evidence of improving margins and profitability.

For long term, high risk investors, the picture is different. Rocket Lab has strong revenue growth, a large backlog, growing defence exposure, a potentially transformational Neutron programme and the proposed Iridium acquisition.

Rather than buying a large position at once, investors who believe in the long term thesis could consider a gradual approach.

The most important confirmation signals to watch are:

  1. Q3 revenue reaching or exceeding the $250 million to $265 million guidance.

  2. Gross margins recovering from the 29% to 31% Q3 outlook.

  3. Continued backlog growth without excessive equity issuance.

  4. Neutron reaching the launch pad in Q4 2026 and progressing towards its first flight.

  5. Evidence that the Iridium acquisition can improve Rocket Lab’s financial profile without excessive dilution.

At this stage, RKLB looks more like a speculative hold or cautious buy on weakness than an aggressive buy.

Conclusion

Rocket Lab’s Q2 2026 results demonstrate why RKLB remains one of the more interesting speculative growth stocks in the space industry.

Revenue growth and backlog expansion are impressive, while defence programmes, Space Systems and Neutron offer substantial long term opportunities.

However, weak profitability, cash consumption, dilution and uncertainty around Neutron mean investors should remain selective. For those seeking exposure to Rocket Lab, gradual buying may be more sensible than chasing short term momentum.
