What Is edgeX?

Introduction to edgeX (EDGE) Crypto - An Explanation - image.webp

edgeX is a perpetual trading platform built for high-performance derivatives execution. It began as an application-specific validium and evolved into a specialized trading environment focused on speed, liquidity, and capital efficiency.

Rather than positioning itself as a broad DeFi ecosystem, edgeX concentrates on orderbook-based perpetual markets designed to compete with centralized exchanges in execution quality.

The edgeX Order Book processes 200,000 orders per second with sub-10 millisecond latency, offering CEX-level speed with up to 100x leverage and robust risk controls.

The platform is incubated by Amber Group and built using StarkWare's ZK-rollup technology, with all transactions settled on Ethereum for maximum security.

How to Buy Edge (EDGE)

What Is EDGE Chain?

EDGE Chain is the dedicated network layer that powers the edgeX ecosystem. It represents the evolution from an application-specific validium model to a purpose-built chain optimized for financial markets. While edgeX is the trading interface and execution engine, EDGE Chain serves as the settlement and infrastructure backbone.

The V2 upgrade introduces EDGE Stack, a specialized execution layer with three core innovations: modular multi-VM design, deterministic parallel execution, and quality-of-service routing.

EDGE Stack supports permissionless market creation, allowing third-party developers to launch new markets while leveraging edgeX's existing liquidity and execution infrastructure.

EDGE Tokenomics

The EDGE token launches with a total supply of 1 billion tokens distributed across five categories:

  • 35% to Ecosystem and Community (locked)

  • 25% to Core Contributors (locked)

  • 25% to Genesis Distribution via airdrop

  • 10% to Foundation (locked), and up to

  • 5% to the Pre-TGE Season airdrop

Only 30% of total supply enters the market at TGE, the combination of the 25% Genesis Distribution and up to 5% Pre-TGE Season allocation.

The remaining 70% is locked across Ecosystem, Core Contributors, and Foundation with vesting schedules not yet fully disclosed.

This means significant supply overhang will emerge as those allocations begin unlocking, which traders should factor into any price analysis.

The XP allocation to Pre-TGE Season holders scales with TGE timing: 2% if TGE occurred by February 3, 3.5% if by March 3, and the full 5% if by March 31.

Since TGE is now confirmed for March 31 at the latest, XP holders are eligible for the maximum 5% allocation.

Products Already Live

Spot trading is live, enabling direct hedging alongside perpetual positions within a unified interface. US Stock Perpetuals launched between January 19–25, introducing leveraged exposure to listed equities using aggregated oracle prices from independent providers.

Polymarket integration surfaces prediction markets directly within the edgeX trading interface, allowing access to event markets alongside traditional derivatives through unified order entry and on-chain settlement.

Native USDC integration through Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) moves the platform away from wrapped or bridged stablecoins toward direct, regulated settlement infrastructure, a significant institutional credibility signal backed by Circle Ventures' investment in the team.

What to Watch Ahead of TGE

The edgeX team committed during a December 29 community call that there is "absolutely no reason to further delay the TGE" beyond the March 31 deadline.

With EDGE already live on pre-market venues, the TGE itself will determine whether the $0.70 pre-market price holds or corrects once the full market opens.

The primary risks to monitor are the 70% supply overhang that will gradually enter circulation through vesting unlocks, concentration of revenue around derivatives volume which makes the protocol sensitive to market cycle downturns, and the pre-market price that may not accurately reflect post-TGE fair value once all XP holders receive and potentially sell their allocations.
