Grayscale Files to Convert Its Litecoin Trust into a Spot ETF with Ticker Symbol $LTCN on NYSE Arca

Grayscale Investments moved closer to bringing its Litecoin Trust to a major United States exchange on September 11, 2026. The asset manager filed an amended registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The filing seeks to convert the eight year old trust into a spot exchange traded fund. If approved, the product would trade on NYSE Arca under the ticker LTCN. The listing, however, still depends on the SEC clearing a pending rule change.

Key Takeaways

  • Grayscale filed to convert its Litecoin Trust into a spot ETF on NYSE Arca.
  • The $LTCN ticker would remain, but the fund would gain creation and redemption features.
  • SEC approval of a 19b-4 application is still required before trading can begin.

The Filing and What It Means

The amended statement, known as Amendment No. 1 to Form S-3, updates Grayscale's plan for the Delaware statutory trust. The vehicle would be renamed the Grayscale Litecoin Trust ETF. It currently trades over the counter on OTCQX.

That market often lets share prices drift far from the value of the Litecoin the trust holds. A spot ETF structure fixes this problem. It uses creation and redemption baskets.

Authorized participants can swap shares for the underlying coin. This keeps the market price close to net asset value.

Grayscale has followed this playbook before. Its Bitcoin and Ethereum trusts became ETFs in 2024. Its Zcash Trust converted to the Zcash ETF on August 25, 2026.

That fund is listed on NYSE Arca with more than $313 million in net assets. The Litecoin ETF Grayscale is now pursuing would follow a similar path.

A Second Entrant in a Thin Market

Grayscale would not be first. Canary Capital launched the first United States spot Litecoin ETF on Nasdaq in October 2025. That fund, ticker LTCC, has seen little demand. As of September 11, 2026, it held about $7.01 million in net assets.

Its daily trading volume was $833,560 that day. The Grayscale trust is much larger. It held $82.3 million in net assets as of June 30, 2026. It also charges a 2.5% annual fee, while Canary charges 0.95%.

The conversion does not create new demand by itself. Its value is mechanical. It takes existing trust assets and wraps them in a cleaner structure.

The real question is whether holders stay or leave once they can trade at net asset value. New money may also choose to hold the coin directly instead of a fund.

Price and Market Context

Litecoin traded near $53.62 at the time of the filing. It had recovered about 72% from a late August low near $39.29. The coin faces resistance at $54.62.

A daily close above that level could open a path to the June high of $59.36. Support sits at $51.60 and then at $49.32 to $50.44.

Technical indicators show mixed signals. The relative strength index sits at 61.57. That leaves room before overbought territory. But trading volume has been light during the recent push higher.

On chain data also leans cautious. Analyst Joao Wedson noted that large Litecoin addresses have fallen to levels last seen at the 2022 cycle bottom. This suggests whale activity is depressed, not that a floor is in place.

What Comes Next

The SEC must approve the 19b-4 application filed by NYSE Arca in January 2025. Bloomberg analysts put the odds near 100%.

They cite newer generic listing standards that limit the agency's discretion. Once cleared, a listing could follow within days. For now, the filing is a step, not a finish line.
