XRP vs XLM Price Outlook: Which Could Break Out First?

XRP and XLM are heading into their biggest conferences of the year, and both are sitting at the bottom of their recent ranges. Ripple's Swell opens tomorrow, October 27, in New York. Stellar's Meridian follows on October 28 in Lisbon. The Federal Reserve decision lands the same day.

This Bitrue Research Institute outlook compares the two assets on momentum, key levels and breakout conditions, and is clear about what the evidence can and cannot tell you. It is educational content, not financial advice.

Key Takeaways

  • XRP traded near $1.29 to $1.30 and XLM near $0.168 in the latest snapshots, both under the moving-average bands that FXStreet flagged as resistance on October 22.

  • XRP needs about +5% to +9% to reclaim its $1.36 to $1.41 resistance zone. XLM needs about +13% to +14% to clear its $0.190 to $0.192 band. Neither has a confirmed breakout.

  • Event weeks are not reliable catalysts. In six past Swell months, XRP closed lower five times, according to 24/7 Wall St.

Both assets show weak momentum with slightly positive funding, a combination FXStreet calls a mild bullish signal against a bearish backdrop. XLM's EMAs are bunched in a narrow band, while XRP's are slightly more spread. Prices have since moved below several of these averages, so they now act as overhead resistance.

Ripple says Swell has historically hosted its major announcements and that this year "will be no different," but it names no specific XRP or RLUSD products in advance.

One coverage piece cautions that Ripple's business expansion does not automatically mean higher demand for XRP, since many institutional use cases run through RLUSD or tokenized securities. It also notes XRPL lending and privacy proposals still need validator approval, and a cleanup upgrade has been pushed to a conditional November 4 target.

Meridian's published material covers speakers and format with no price commentary, and the page that lists it for tickets is a promotional post with a discount code, so I used it only for dates.

Do Conferences Move the Price?

XRP ended the Swell month lower five times in six. The two huge following-month rallies came in different market cycles, and the author says they are hard to link to the events. Read it as "sell the news has been common," not as a rule. This dataset covers XRP only. I found no equivalent compilation for XLM and Meridian, so there is nothing comparable to test.

Macro Backdrop

Both assets are trading inside the same macro box. Bitrue's October 9 analysis noted the Fed's unanimous rate hike in September, a 10-year Treasury yield near 5.3%, the Dollar Index at its highest since April 2025 and Bitcoin trading under $83,000. A Fed decision on October 28 falls on the same day Meridian begins and in the middle of Swell. A hawkish surprise would likely weigh on both, and these two assets tend to move with the broader market more than with their own conferences.

Regulation is a shared tailwind with caveats. Proposed CFTC rules reported on October 5 list XRP and XLM among digital commodities, but the proposals may change after public comment, and the CLARITY Act fell short in the Senate on September 15.

Breakout Scenarios

Scenario

XRP trigger

XLM trigger

Bullish breakout

Daily close above $1.375 to $1.41 on rising volume, then $1.54

Reclaim $0.173, then a close above $0.190 to $0.192

Range

Chop between $1.25 and $1.36

Chop between $0.153 and $0.173

Bearish breakdown

Close below $1.25, exposing lower support

Close below $0.153, then $0.142

Which could break out first? By the numbers, XRP is closer to its first resistance and holds its range better, so it is the nearer candidate for a technical break. XLM has a bigger potential percentage move but has to reclaim a level it has just lost, and its derivatives positioning is weaker. Neither sits in a position where the evidence favors a breakout over a range. None of these scenarios carries a probability, because none of the sources supports one.

A caution on older material: a June 30 piece on XRP and XLM key levels reflects prices near $1.05 and $0.18, so its levels are out of date, and that page includes an unlabeled presale promotion.

Bitrue Research Institute View: Reading Both Assets With Bitrue AI

XRP vs XLM Price Outlook: Which Could Break Out First?
Bitrue AI XRP analysis

XRP vs XLM Price Outlook: Which Could Break Out First?
Bitrue AI XLM analysis

Bitrue AI is a no-code strategy generator. According to Bitrue's pages, it analyzes live market conditions, then produces a strategy with entry, take-profit and stop-loss levels, backtest data, a risk rating and a plain-language rationale. Its XRP/USDT strategies come in Stable, Growth and Aggressive tiers. Bitrue's October 21 XRP analysis says Bitrue AI does not predict the future with certainty and does not guarantee profits.

The most useful way to use it in a comparison like this is to let it test your own scenario map. Bitrue's published XRP analysis (October 21) used the same zones as above: the $1.38 daily average as a ceiling since March, $1.29 to $1.28 as support, and a bullish case that needs a volume-backed close above $1.38 to reach $1.42 to $1.50.

It also flagged a fake-breakout case where volume fades. Bitrue's October 14 piece cited the Research Institute's XRP long-to-short ratio of 2.32, a reminder that crowded longs can unwind quickly. Today's FXStreet figure of 0.67 shows how far positioning has swung since.

To compare XRP and XLM on the platform, you can:

  1. Open Bitrue AI and the Bitrue AI Strategy page, and confirm which of the two pairs currently has a strategy. XRP/USDT does. XLM was among the supported assets in Bitrue's October 19 review, but that list changes, so check before assuming.

  2. Compare the AI's price range with the support and resistance tables above. A range inside $1.25 to $1.36 is a bet on chop, not a breakout.

  3. Read the risk rating, backtested drawdown and any leverage setting. Bitrue's own earlier review of strategy results noted that those figures were backtests with no capital deployed.

  4. Decide your loss limit before the entry, and size it so a break below $1.25 or $0.153 does not hurt.

For the method, see Bitrue's guide to using Bitrue AI, its overview of how Bitrue AI works, and its note on whether Bitrue AI guarantees profits. Risks to Weigh

  • Event risk. Swell and Meridian bring headline volatility in both directions, and announcements may involve RLUSD or tokenized products rather than the tokens themselves.

  • Macro risk. The October 28 Fed decision, high yields and a strong dollar affect the whole market.

  • Positioning. Long-to-short ratios near one-month lows mean positioning can flip quickly, in either direction.

  • Supply and unlocks. A scheduled XRP escrow release can offset positive news, according to Bitrue's analysis.

  • Regulatory uncertainty. The CFTC proposals can change after comment, and legislation has stalled.

  • Data quality. Trackers disagree on all-time highs, and several reports use different timestamps.

Conclusion

On the evidence, XRP is the nearer candidate for a technical breakout, because its first resistance is about 5% away and its support is tighter, while XLM has to recover a level it just lost and needs roughly 13% to 14% to clear its EMA band.

But both are in downtrends under their key averages, five of six Swell months ended lower for XRP, and a Fed decision lands in the middle of both conferences.

The sensible stance is conditional: wait for a volume-backed close above the resistance bands, or a break below support, and size positions for either. This is not financial advice.
