XRP Investment Analysis: ETF Inflows vs. Escrow Dilution Risk

XRP Investment Analysis: ETF Inflows vs. Escrow Dilution Risk

U.S. spot XRP ETFs took in just $4.3 million from October 19 to 22, 2026, about 0.3% of the $1.48 billion they manage, while XRP traded near $1.28, down 48.8% in a year. At the same time, Ripple's escrow system keeps releasing supply: roughly 300 million XRP a month net, by one tracker-based estimate. This analysis puts the two forces side by side, adds what XRP is actually used for, and lists what to watch before you buy or sell.

Key Takeaways

  • XRP ETFs have drawn $1.80 billion in cumulative inflows but hold only $1.48 billion, a $322 million gap caused by XRP's price decline, and weekly inflows have slowed sharply after a 13-week inflow streak ended.

  • Ripple holds about 32.9 billion XRP in escrow and has been re-locking roughly 700 million of each 1 billion monthly release, leaving about 300 million XRP a month in net supply growth. At that pace, escrow would last until about mid-2035.

  • XRP's fee burn is tiny next to escrow releases: 14.4 million XRP destroyed since 2012 equals about 5% of a single month's estimated net release, so XRP's value depends on adoption and demand, not on scarcity.

XRP Price Today: Where Does XRP Stand?

XRP traded around $1.28 on October 24, 2026, according to 24/7 Wall St. That compares with about $1.43 on October 7, so the decline has continued through October.

Are XRP ETF Inflows Supporting the Price?

Not enough to lift it so far. According to SoSoValue data cited by 24/7 Wall St., five U.S. spot XRP ETFs saw $4.3 million of net inflows between October 19 and 22, with nothing on October 23. The prior week had $1.8 million of net outflows, ending a 13-week inflow streak.

Cumulative inflows are $1.80 billion, yet the funds hold $1.48 billion. That is because they hold XRP directly, and much of the money arrived when XRP was far higher. A year ago XRP traded near $2.51, so many ETF buyers sit on paper losses, which may make them hesitant to add.

WisdomTree's spot XRP ETF awaits an SEC decision, but 24/7 Wall St. argues a sixth fund is unlikely to change flows on its own, since demand follows XRP's price more than the number of products.

What Is Ripple's Escrow, and How Much Does It Dilute XRP?

XRP's total supply was fixed at 100 billion in 2012, and Ripple locked 55 billion XRP in on-ledger escrows in December 2017 that can release up to 1 billion per month. Ripple has re-locked a large share of each release.

According to Whale Alert data reported by The Crypto Basic (via DigitalToday), it re-locked 700 million XRP monthly from January to May 2026, leaving about 300 million a month for operations, partnerships, and liquidity.

The numbers as of June 2026:

Metric

XRP in escrow

32.9 billion (down from 36.2 billion in June 2025)

XRP in Ripple-controlled wallets

Circulating supply

Above 62.0 billion (up from 58.93 billion)

Net monthly release at the current pace

~300 million

Escrow depletion at the current pace

~mid-2035

The depletion date is sensitive to how much Ripple keeps. At 400 million a month, escrow would run out around early 2033, and if Ripple stopped re-locking entirely, in about 33 months. Circulating supply growing from 58.93 billion to above 62.0 billion is about 5% a year of dilution, so demand has to grow at least that fast just to hold the price steady.

Released XRP isn't the same as sold XRP. Ripple uses it for operations, partnerships, and liquidity programs, and the schedule is public on the ledger, so markets already know about it. The risk is a steady overhang, not a surprise.

ETF Demand vs. Escrow Supply: A Simple Comparison

Putting the flows in the same unit shows the gap. This is my own illustration using the figures above, not a forecast:

Flow

Rough dollar value at $1.28

Net monthly escrow release (~300M XRP)

~$384 million

Last week's ETF inflows ($4.3M), at that pace for a month

~$19 million

At that pace, the week's ETF demand equals under 5% of a month's net release. The comparison is imperfect. Net releases aren't automatically sold, and ETFs are only one source of demand next to exchange buying, payments, and institutional programs. But it explains why 13 weeks of ETF inflows didn't prevent a price decline.

What Is XRP's Utility Value?

XRP's utility is real but small in unit terms. Per XRPL.to's summary of the ledger, XRP pays transaction fees (a minimum of 10 drops, or 0.00001 XRP, which is destroyed), serves as a reserve for accounts (1 XRP plus 0.2 XRP per object owned), can bridge trades between tokens through auto-bridging, and can be used as a bridge asset in cross-border payments.

The fee burn is minuscule. About 14.4 million XRP has been destroyed since 2012, roughly 0.014% of the original supply and about 5% of one month's estimated net escrow release. Utility demand has to come from growth in ledger activity, stablecoins like RLUSD, tokenized assets, and payments. For background, Bitrue's XRP ecosystem 2026 report covers these developments.

Buy or Sell XRP? A Framework (Not Advice)

What supports the bull case:

  • Regulated ETF access, with $1.8 billion of cumulative inflows

  • Ledger utility growth, including stablecoins and tokenized assets

  • A transparent, predictable escrow schedule

  • A price down about 65% from its high, which some investors treat as value

What supports the bear case:

  • Weak ETF flows and holders sitting on paper losses

  • About 5% annual dilution from escrow releases

  • Tiny fee burn, so no scarcity effect

  • Price below its levels of one month, one year, and the year's start

What to watch next:

  1. Weekly ETF flows on SoSoValue, and whether the 13-week streak resumes

  2. The SEC's decision on WisdomTree's XRP ETF

  3. Ripple's monthly re-lock behavior on Whale Alert

  4. Price behavior around the recent lows near $1.28

  5. Growth in XRPL activity and stablecoin use

A numeric 2026 price target isn't supportable here. Forecasts vary widely, and the outcome depends on whether demand grows faster than the roughly 5% annual float growth. Any decision should rest on your own risk tolerance and time horizon.

FAQ

Is XRP a good investment right now?

It depends on your risk tolerance. Bulls point to ETF access and ledger growth, while bears point to weak inflows, a roughly 5% annual float increase from escrow, and a price down 48.8% over a year. This is not advice.

How much XRP does Ripple release from escrow each month?

Up to 1 billion XRP per month can be released. Ripple re-locked about 700 million monthly from January to May 2026, leaving roughly 300 million, according to Whale Alert data reported in June.

How much do XRP ETFs hold, and are they getting inflows?

U.S. spot XRP ETFs hold about $1.48 billion after $1.80 billion of cumulative inflows. Inflows were just $4.3 million from October 19 to 22, 2026.

Does Ripple's escrow dilute XRP?

Yes, gradually. Circulating supply rose from 58.93 billion to above 62.0 billion over a year, about 5%, though released XRP isn't necessarily sold.

Does XRP get burned?

A small amount. Every transaction fee is destroyed, and about 14.4 million XRP has been burned since 2012, far less than monthly escrow releases.
